A watermark is an image or text that appears behind the main text of the document. It is usually a lighter shade than the text, so you can read the document easily. Text Watermarks are often used to categorize or to show the purpose of a document with words such as DRAFT.

Go to the Design tab and, in the Page Background group, select Watermark. (Depending on the version of Word, the path may be Page Layout > Page Background > Watermark.) Select Custom Watermark. In the Printed Watermark dialog box, select Picture watermark.

To insert a text watermark, open a Google Doc and navigate to Insert > Watermark. In the panel on the right, click Text and type in the text you want to appear in your watermark. There are also options on the panel for editing your watermark. To remove it, click Remove watermark at the bottom of the panel.

If it's a text watermark, you'll have the WordArt Tools tab available, and if it's a picture, you'll see the Picture Tools tab when the watermark is selected. If it's a text watermark, you can drag it to change its position on the page, but no other editing. If it's a picture, right-click and choose Format Picture.

To create a customised text watermark:Select the Design tab.Click the Watermark icon in the Page Background group.Choose Custom Watermark...Choose the Text Watermark option.Enter your watermark text in the Text box, and choose the font, size, colour and direction of the text.

A watermark is an identifying image, shape, or piece of text that overlays the document.You can add a watermark to to documents in Word by going to Design>Watermark. (In older versions of Word, it is often found in the Page Layout tab rather than the Design tab.)

In Word 2007, open a document and click on the Page Layout tab and select Watermark from the Page Background group. Select Custom Watermark and click on Text Watermark. Select your font and other formatting as above and click OK.
