Page breaks are also used to start a chapter on a new page, a common standard in publishing. To ensure that the new chapter does appear on a separate page, insert a page break immediately following the text at the end of the chapter. To add a page break, click Insert, and Page Break, then OK.

What are Page Breaks? Insert a page break when you want to move to the beginning of the next page in your document. Many users, unaware of the page break feature, will simply mash the Enter key when they want to start a new page. That works too until you want to edit your document later.

Insert a page break Place the cursor where you want to start a new page. Select Insert > Page Break.

Page breaks may have been created by a user where specific paragraph settings have been selected. If a page break is occurring and you do not see a manual page break with Show/Hide ¶ on, check the paragraph options: Select the first paragraph on the page following the page break. Click the Home tab in the Ribbon.

Remove a page break from a Word document On the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click Show/Hide to show all formatting marks including page breaks. Double-click the page break to select it, then press Delete. Click Show/Hide again to hide the remaining formatting marks in the document.
