You may use the default text size for your notes. The preferred method is to use the same font and font size as your text (12 pt font Times New Roman) Footnotes should be placed at the end of all punctuation except the dash.

Renumbering Existing Footnotes Make sure that Track Changes is not in use. Go to Insert> Footnote. Confirm that the Footnote option is selected. From the Number choices select Continuous. Confirm that Apply changes to specifies Whole document. Be sure to click Apply rather than Insert to close the dialog window.

To format all footnotes in a document, you need to use Styles. Click the Home tab, then click the downward arrow in the Styles section to open a list of style elements. If you don't see Footnotes listed, click the Options button at the bottom. Under Select styles to show, choose All styles.

That's due to the formatting of your Footnote Reference style. > Use Format>Style to change it.

If you want to change the formatting of the footnote text at the bottom of the page, select the Footnote Text Style. Click Modify, and then change the formatting options (font, size, and so on). For even more formatting options, click the Format button in the lower-left corner.

In the Styles Drawer, select Footnote Text and click the triangle to the right of the style name. From the pop-up menu, choose Redefine style from Selection. In the body of the document, select the text you entered, including the footnote marker.

Please try clicking on the Review tab of the Ribbon, then on the Accept icon and choosing Accept All Changes in Document. On the same tab make sure Track Changes is switched to OFF. If there are any comments, right-click on each one and choose Delete. Then your footnotes should update correctly.
