A checkbox cannot be marked as required because a checkbox always consists of a value - either true or false at any point of time. If at all you want to write a validation rule to say the checkbox should be always selected, you can do so using a validation rule.

Create a checkbox formula the same way that you would create any other formula field in Salesforce. In Setup, use the quick find box to find the Object Manager. Click Contact Fields & Relationships and click New. Select Formula and click Next. In Field Label, enter Do Not Contact.Select Checkbox and click Next.

To make a field mandatory, Go to Admin settings > Lead/Contact/Account/Deal Modules. Click Add Field. - Look for the field of your choice in the hidden fields section.In the Add Field/ Edit Field overlay, you can check the Required checkbox to make a field mandatory.Click Save.
