Using the Notes drop-down list at the top of the Footnotes pane, choose Footnote Continuation Notice. The current notice appears in the window. (Note that the notice might be originally blank, so you might not see anything in the window.)

Footnote or endnote numbers in the text should follow punctuation, and preferably be placed at the end of a sentence. When citing the source for a quotation, the number should be placed at the end of the quotation and not after the author's name if that appears first in the text.

In both MLA and APA, a footnote example includes the citation found at the bottom, or foot, of the page corresponding to the superscript number found in the body of the work. FOOTNOTES are located at the bottom of a page, with a corresponding indicator like an asterisk, dagger, or number present in the text. Separate the text of the page from that of the footnotes on the bottom by adding a line with three asterisks on it after the text and before the footnotes.

The short answer is that there is no way; Word doesn't allow you to add comments to either footnotes or endnotes. There are a couple workarounds you can use, however. One is to actually insert your comment in the main portion of your document, right next to your footnote or endnote reference.
