In block structure you write about each topic in a separate block.Then you begin writing by listing the first category under A then the second category, then the third and the fourth. At this point you use a comparison or contrast transition, change paragraphs and begin with the second topic B.

The block method works best on short papers about simple topics. To do the block method, first write an introduction. In the introduction, draw the reader's attention, give background information, state the two things being compared and contrasted, and provide a thesis statement.

The Block Method is used to compare and contrast two subjects one at a time. The Point By Point Method is used to compare and contrast two subjects by focusing on specfic points at one time.

Block Outline Example The block outline begins with an introduction and ends with a conclusion. As most compare-contrast essays examine the similarities or differences between two ideas, each of those concepts appears in a body paragraph between the start and finish.

In the body of the essay (ignoring introduction and conclusion), Block Format presents its comparison and contrast in two or more paragraphs depending on how many items are being compared and contrasted to each other.

When using the block method, begin by discussing all the main points about the first topic you are discussing, then move on and make all the points you want to make about the second topic (and then the third topic, etc., if you are comparing and contrasting more than two things).

A) Block Approach. This organizational pattern is most effective when used on short essays, such as in-class essays. The body of such an essay is organized by discussing one subject, point by point, in complete detail before moving on to the next subject.
