Math Mode. LATEX has a special mode for formatting mathematical formulas. In addition to displaying complicated mathematical notations, this mode allows the use of: 2022 Subscripts and superscripts.

You should use \\text if you are writing text (i.e. not math, but words) and \\mathrm if you are writing math, but with Roman letters.

There are a few ways to enter math mode, however the most common is $.... $, where the text within the dollar signs is in the math mode environment. You have already been using math mode unknowingly by using the \\begin{equation} and \\end{equation} commands.

To manually insert an equation in Word, first place your cursor at the insertion point in your document where you want the equation to appear. Then click the Insert tab in the Ribbon. Then click the Equation button in the Symbols button group. A blank equation is then inserted into your document.

The equation numbers should be enclosed by parentheses and placed at the right-hand side of the page. If you are referring to an equation in the text, use eq. (3) (or other abbreviations). If it is the first word in a sentence, capitalize it, i.e., Eq.

In LaTeX math mode, spaces are overlooked, and letters are rendered in italics. Hence, in order to add normal text, we need special commands such as \\text, \\textrm, \\mbx and \\textnormal.
