The $1 note features a portrait of George Washington on the front of the note and an image of the Great Seal of the United States on the back of the note.

On the Great Seal of the United States, the eagle doesn't have a serpent but ribbon in its beak that reads, "E Pluribus Unum." Nevertheless, the eagle-serpent imagery isn't uniquely American. Also on the backside of the $1 bill is the reverse of the Great Seal which is rich with symbolism.

Around the new border-less portrait of Ulysses Grant appears a subtle, stylized blue and red background image of the American Flag. A small silver-blue star was also added to the lower right of Grant's portrait.

On the back of the $1 bill, the top of the pyramid is incomplete. Charles Thomson, secretary of the Continental Congress, stated that the unfinished pyramid signifies strength and duration, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.

The $10 note includes an embedded security thread that glows orange when illuminated by UV light. When held to light, a portrait watermark of Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton is visible from both sides of the note. In addition, the note includes a color-shifting numeral 10 in the lower right corner of the note.

The obverse of the bill features the portrait of Alexander Hamilton, who served as the first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. The reverse features the U.S. Treasury Building. All $10 bills issued today are Federal Reserve Notes.
