In many cases, the best resolution for printing is 300 PPI. At 300 pixels per inch (which roughly translates to 300 DPI, or dots per inch, on a printing press), an image will appear sharp and crisp. These are considered to be high resolution, or high-res, images.

Resize a Photo to 4x6 Open the photo in your editing program and locate the toolbar. Navigate to "Edit" and click on the "Resize" option. Some software programs have this option as a shortcut, and others position the resize button in the toolbar.

To improve a picture's resolution, increase its size, then make sure it has the optimal pixel density. The result is a larger image, but it may look less sharp than the original picture. The bigger you make an image, the more you'll see a difference in sharpness.

If you try to print an image larger than the size for which the image has available information, the image will begin to look jagged or blurry. This is known as "pixelization," because the printer is literally making the pixels of the image larger to account for the lack of picture information.

Choose constrained aspect ratio and put in width=2 height=3 for 4x6, width=4 height=5 for 8x10, width=2.5 height=3.5 for 5x7. Then draw the regtangle selection on the part you want to keep on the photo and go to image> crop (you can move the selection around before cropping). Voila!
