Set a column to a specific widthSelect the column or columns that you want to change.On the Home tab, in the Cells group, click Format.Under Cell Size, click Column Width.In the Column width box, type the value that you want.Click OK.

To best fit one column, right click on the column header and select Best Fit. The selected column will adjust to display the full contents of the column. To best fit the entire gird, right click on any column header and select Best Fit (all columns).

To resize multiple columns at the same time, hold down the SHIFT key, select multiple adjacent columns, and then resize the selected columns. You can also select the entire datasheet and resize all the columns.

To use AutoFit, simply double-click the right edge of the column or field you wish to adjust. Scroll to the right until the Address field is displayed. Double-click the right edge of the Address field name to automatically adjust its width.

On the Page Layout or Layout tab, click Columns. At the bottom of the list, choose More Columns. In the Columns dialog box, adjust the settings under Width and spacing to choose your column width and the spacing between columns.

The width of the columns i.e. td in a table can be fixed very easily. This can be done by adding the width attribute in the <td> tag. If the width is not specified, the width of the column changes according to the change in the content.
