Department of Agriculture | Agricultural Education | New Jersey FFA Association. FFA is a national educational organization, some 850,800 members strong, preparing young people for leadership and careers in agriculture.

Texas tops the list of states with the largest FFA membership with 81,694 students, followed by California with 70, 555, Georgia with 31,616, Missouri with 25,096 and Oklahoma with 23,562. The 10 largest FFA chapters are all in California.

The letters “FFA” stand for Future Farmers of America. These letters are a part of our history and our heritage that will never change. “Future Farmers of America” was founded by a group of young farmers in 1928. Their mission was to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population.

For this reason, the name of the organization was updated in 1988 after a vote of national convention delegates to reflect the growing diversity and new opportunities in the industry of agriculture.

Nationally, New Jersey is one of the top 10 producers of blueberries, cranberries, peaches, tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, spinach, squash, as well as in floriculture.

The New Jersey State FFA Convention helps FFA members develop leadership, personal growth and career success through participation in career development events, motivational workshops and sessions. The members and their advisors also are recognized for their achievements throughout the year.
