Proc.2006-47 and temporary and proposed regulations that provide methods for calculating the W-2wage limitation under $199. Both the socedureand the regulations are effective for taxable years beginning after May 17, 2006, and incorporate changes to the wage limitation enacted as part of the Tax Increase and Prevention Act of 2005 ("TIPRA"),-' providing that "W-2 wages" for purposes of the limit ation.

For eligible taxpayers with total taxable income over the threshold, the QBI component will be limited by the amount of W-2 wages paid by the qualified trade or business and the UBIA of qualified property held by the trade or business.

IRC Section 199A allows individuals, trusts, and estates with pass-through business income to deduct up to 20% of qualified business income (QBI) from taxable ordinary income.

Overview of Limitations The individual's share of 50% of W-2 wages paid to employees during the tax year and properly allocable to QBI, or. The sum of the individual's share of 25% of such W-2 wages plus the individual's share of 2.5% of the unadjusted basis immediately upon acquisition (UBIA) of qualified property.

For eligible taxpayers with total taxable income over the threshold, the QBI component will be limited by the amount of W-2 wages paid by the qualified trade or business and the UBIA of qualified property held by the trade or business. The regulations provide additional information on these limitations.

The QBI Component is subject to limitations, depending on the taxpayer's taxable income which may include the type of trade or business, the amount of W-2 wages paid by the qualified trade or business, and the unadjusted basis immediately after acquisition (UBIA) of qualified property held by the trade or business.

How to qualify for the QBI deduction. If your total taxable income — that is, not just your business income but other income as well — is at or below $182,100 for single filers or $364,200 for joint filers in 2023 you may qualify for the 20% deduction on your taxable business income.
