The Auditor of State's Office offers comprehensive assistance to government entities throughout Ohio. LGS serves as a consulting and fiscal advisory group to all government agencies, school systems, and political subdivisions.

The County Auditor acts as an agent for the Ohio Tax Commissioner and is responsible for local administration of Estate Tax proceedings and distribution of taxes. The County Auditor is the Sealer of Weights and Measures of the county per O.R.C. Section 319.55.

The auditor is a state-level position in 48 states that supervises and has administrative rights over the accounting and financial functions of the state. Additionally, auditors act as watchdogs over other state agencies, performing internal government audits and investigating fraud allegations.

The Auditor of State is responsible for auditing all public offices in Ohio including those in cities, villages, counties, townships, schools, and universities, as well as the many departments, agencies, and commissions of state government. Over 4,600 audits are performed at least every two years.
