Brian Kirchoff is an abstract artist based in St. Louis, Missouri. After an almost 40 year career as a voiceover artist, Brian jumped into creating abstract art as a way to expand his creative horizons, as well as to learn something completely new.

Wassily Kandinsky, Black Grid, 1922 He made some of the first ever truly abstract paintings, prints and drawings. These amazing artworks removed any trace of the real world entirely. Instead, Kandinsky painted geometric shapes, colors and patterns that made reference to a higher spiritual plane beyond the real world.

Russian-born artist, Wassily Kandinsky, is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of abstract art. He believed that art should visually represent the artist's inner spiritual and emotional experiences. Kandinsky's early works were influenced by Russian folk art and Impressionism.

The action painters were led by Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, who worked in a spontaneous improvisatory manner often using large brushes to make sweeping gestural marks. Pollock famously placed his canvas on the ground and danced around it pouring paint from the can or trailing it from the brush or a stick.

Among the first to start abstracting still life scenes were Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin. Influenced by Japanese woodblock prints, these artists began reducing objects to assortments of shape and color, while drawing attention to the presence of the canvas.
