Get Characterization Of Vitamin K From Human Liver1/2 - Jn Nutrition
Tive purification of natural vitamin K from human liver was accomplished by extraction, chromatography on silicic acid, extraction with Claisen's alkali, and several additional Chromatographie methods. Ultraviolet ab sorption and mass spectrometry of the purified samples supported the presence of phylloquinone, MK-7, MK-8, MK-9, MK-9(H2), MK-9(H4), MK-10, MK-10(H,), MK-10(H4), and MK-11. The principal vitamins were phylloquinone and MK-7. J. Nutr. 102: 331-336, 1972. vitamin K menaquinone.

The ensuing reduction in bile production and flow leads to decreased intraluminal concentrations of biliary salts. This results in the decreased absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, including vitamin K.
-
Vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors are synthesized in the liver. Consequently, severe liver disease results in lower blood levels of vitamin K-dependent clotting factors and an increased risk for uncontrolled bleeding (hemorrhage) (8).
