What must I do as a landlord? Owners of rental property must register their property with BSEED and obtain a rental registration certificate on an annual basis. The registration certificate must be posted on the property premises or made available upon request.

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program provides participants a utility allowance (UA) to offset tenant-paid utility cost. All utilities that a resident would be required to pay (electric, natural gas, water/sewer, etc.)

The maximum housing assistance is generally the lesser of the payment standard minus 30% of the family's monthly adjusted income or the gross rent for the unit minus 30% of monthly adjusted income.

Is Detroit Landlord Friendly? In a manner of speaking, yes, Detroit is one of the more landlord friendly states, thanks to low filing fees, expedited time periods, and court-assisted evictions.
