The Parkinson's UK Brain Bank is the world's only brain bank solely dedicated to Parkinson's research. By pledging your brain to Parkinson's research, you can help find a cure to transform the lives of 153,000 people living with Parkinson's in the UK.

The Brain Bank collects brain and tissue samples from across the United States and distributes them to investigators all over the world. A brain donation is a gift of knowledge to all of us, and it is of critical importance for our understanding of brain disorders.

What is deep brain stimulation? Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical procedure that uses implanted electrodes and electrical stimulation to treat movement disorders associated with Parkinson's disease (PD), essential tremor, dystonia and other neurological conditions.

To register to donate your brain tissue or that of a relative or partner, contact your nearest brain bank. In the first instance, you should contact the nearest brain bank to where you live (or nearest to the person who is interested in donating) to obtain information about registration.

The Brain Bank, based at Imperial College London, collects precious tissue from people with and without Parkinson's who have decided to leave their brains to Parkinson's research.

Talk with your family about your intent to donate, make a living will and tell your doctor your wishes. It is important to enroll with an organization in advance. Some brain banks will not accept a donation unless they already know the person's wishes and have medical records, and this can take time.
