The Copyright Office is located at 101 Independence Avenue, SE, Washington, DC, in the James Madison Memorial Building, of the Library of Congress.

In general, anyone found liable for civil copyright infringement may be ordered to pay either actual damages or "statutory" damages affixed at not less than $750 and not more than $30,000 per work infringed. For "willful" infringement, a court may award up to $150,000 per work infringed.

General Scope of Copyright. The five fundamental rights that the bill gives to copyright owners-the exclusive rights of reproduction, adaptation, publication, performance, and display-are stated generally in section 106.

The suit for infringement of copyright should be filed before the District Court having jurisdiction or before the High Court having original jurisdiction.

Section 1338 of Title 28 of the United States Code confers upon the federal district courts exclusive jurisdiction over claims of copyright infringement.

Since Supreme Court decisions are U.S. government documents, their texts are public domain and may be freely copied and retransmitted.

The U.S. Copyright Act states that the statute of limitations for copyright violation is three years for civil lawsuits. You can only file a lawsuit within three years of discovering the copyright violation. However, this time frame is exclusive for civil court lawsuits.
