Fairfax County operates under the urban county executive form of government, an optional form of Virginia county government. The powers of government are vested in an elected Board of Supervisors consisting of nine members elected by district, plus a Chairman elected at large.

The WDU Program establishes maximum household income limits between 60 and 120 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). The 2023 AMI for a household of four is $152,100 as set by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

County government provides many services you use every day: police, fire and rescue personnel; public transportation we take to work; health clinics; recreation centers for our enjoyment; libraries for books or doing research; and disposal facilities for our trash.

The FCEMP includes three elements: A monthly payment of $750 to 180 eligible families for 15 months; Freedom of choice for the families to use the cash as they deem necessary; and. Optional financial wellness supports and the opportunity to increase their social networks through virtual or in-person events.
