During the 1920s and 1930s Douglas became one of the major tobacco markets in the state. This era of the city's history is depicted in the Heritage Station Museum, located in the old Georgia and Florida Railroad depot. The Eleventh District Agricultural College was established in Douglas in 1907.

Chief Bruce E. Heberer has been a career member of the City of Johnstown Fire Department since 1987 and a member of the Berkshire Fire District since 1986.

With a current population of approximately 71,000, the department has grown to meet the needs of the community, with 81 employees, five fire stations located strategically throughout the community and 12 vehicles. Queen Creek now has five fire stations: Fire Station 1, 20678 E.

The AFRD staffs 35 fire stations, including five stations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. We have more than 1,100 employees, sworn and civilian, serving an area of 132 square miles within the Atlanta city limits.

We operate three fire stations. Currently we have an Insurance Services Organization ( ISO ) rating of (2) two. In the United States, there are only 1,324 class 2 fire departments.

Chris Coons is the Johns Creek Fire Department Fire Chief. Additionally, Chief Coons serves as the EMA (Emergency Management Agency) Director for the City of Johns Creek.

Johns Creek City Council appointed Ed Densmore as City Manager in March 2020. He was appointed to serve based on his proven leadership and his expert knowledge of the administration of the City of Johns Creek. A Michigan native, Densmore was appointed Police Chief with the launch of the JCPD in 2008.
