The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe (Ojibwe: Misi-zaaga'igani Anishinaabeg), also known as the Mille Lacs Band of Chippewa Indians, is a federally recognized American Indian tribe located in east-central Minnesota. The Band has 4,302 members as of 2012.

The Dakota fell into the water and swam for shore, but none of them made it. There were so many dead that their blood stained the water red far out into the lake, and the Ojibwe named the river Battle River and the lake Red Lake: Miskwaagamiwizaga'iganing.

The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe's history dates back more than 250 years, when our Ojibwe ancestors settled their home in what is now East Central Minnesota, bringing with them a rich culture that allowed them to thrive in the northern lake country.
