Provide a real aid amount that would enable you to attend the school. If you need aid for specific things, like travel costs or supplies, be sure to name them. A competing offer, if you have one. If another school offered you more financial aid, include the offer and ask the school to match it.

It may take anywhere from two weeks to six weeks for the Office of Financial Aid to review your appeal. Appeals are reviewed in the order that they are received.

The financial aid appeal process varies from school to school. There's no guarantee that your appeal will be approved, but there are steps you can take to improve your chances.

You can appeal during the first year in college or after the first year in college. It is best to appeal for more financial aid as soon as the special circumstance has occurred. For example, if a parent has lost their job, appeal for more financial aid as soon as you've received the layoff notice or termination letter.

If your appeal is denied, you may submit a secondary appeal to the Office of Student Financial Aid if you are providing new information that was not considered in your original appeal.
