Chiefs' jersey patch is a nod to their AFL roots and late owner Lamar Hunt. The NFL's Super Bowl participants have worn Super Bowl logo patches on their jerseys every year since 1998, when the Denver Broncos defeated the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl II to end the 1997 season.

But the club has added a detail for the 2023 campaign: a small football-shaped patch on the right side of each player's chest. And, inside that football are the letters "NKH." What's the significance of that addition? It honors Norma Knobel Hunt, the "First Lady of Football."

The Chiefs cannot be spoken of without mentioning the Hunt family. The team's founder, Lamar Hunt, who died in 2006, has been honored since 2007 with a patch on the left side of the jersey that includes the letters LH.

The only true “throwback” helmet the Chiefs have ever had was their original red helmet with the state of Texas on it, an homage to when they were the Dallas Texans.
