The P50 form is used to claim a tax refund if you won't be working for at least four weeks and you're not claiming benefits (such as Jobseekers' Allowance, Incapacity Benefit or Carer's Allowance).

To obtain copies of your tax return from the IRS, download file Form 4506 from the IRS website, complete it, sign it, and mail it to the appropriate IRS address. As of 2022, the IRS charges $43 for each return you request.

When should I complete a P50? You can use the form to make a claim if you have been unemployed for four weeks or more. If you are still looking for work and are not claiming any benefits you can submit a P50. You can also make a claim if you have retired or gone into full-time education.

After you have sent all the needed documents HMRC will process your application. If you expect your refund to come in the form of a cheque it, may take them up to 5 weeks. Refunds going to bank accounts are usually processed in 5 working days. If after 6 weeks nothing still happens — contact HMRC.
