The NRL-CC's mission is to assist Clinical Laboratories performing Clinical Chemistry examinations; to assess and improve the quality of laboratory results they produce in order to maintain a high standard of practice ensuring that results released are reliable, thus, giving maximum benefit to the patient.

Routine Tests These include, but are not limited to glucose, BUN, electrolytes, Ca, P, liver function tests, cardiac markers, CSF glucose and protein, and measurement of drugs frequently involved in poisonings as well as commonly monitored therapeutic drugs.

Clinical chemistry is the biochemical analysis of body fluids in support of the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Testing in this specialty utilizes chemical reactions to identify or quantify levels of chemical compounds in bodily fluids.

A national reference laboratory is required to implement quality assurance and, in many cases, is the main facility where testing for resistance to first and second-line drugs is done. The NRL also interacts with the Supranational Reference Laboratory Network (SNRL).
