Properties of Organic Solvents Organic solvents exhibit a low boiling point- Organic solvents are said to have very low boiling points. Due to this low boiling point, they are highly volatile. Organic solvents are colourless liquids- These are clear liquids and have lower molecular weights.

Understanding the Types of Cleaning Solvents Oxygenated solvents. Hydrocarbon solvents. Halogenated solvents.

These properties are called colligative properties. Four important colligative properties that we will examine here are vapor pressure depression, boiling point elevation, freezing point depression, and osmotic pressure.

A solvent is simply a substance that can dissolve other molecules and compounds, which are known as solutes. A homogeneous mixture of solvent and solute is called a solution, and much of life's chemistry takes place in aqueous solutions, or solutions with water as the solvent.

Four properties of organic compound that distinguish them from inorganic compounds are: Presence of carbon. Solubility in the organic solvents. Forming of covalent bonds. Having low melting and boiling points.

The most important physical properties contributing to the general solvent nature are the melting point, boiling point, vapour pressure, refractive index, density, specific conductivity, viscosity, heat of vaporization, dipole moment and relative permittivity.

Organic compounds refer to any chemical substance containing carbon atoms. In general, organic compounds tend to possess covalent bonding. They form the building blocks for all living organisms. They are defined by diverse physical properties such as odor, solubility, density, melting point, and boiling point.

The most common three types of solvents in organic chemistry are apolar, polar aprotic and polar protic.

The polarity, dipole moment, polarizability and hydrogen bonding of a solvent determines what type of compounds it is able to dissolve and with what other solvents or liquid compounds it is miscible.
