Please review and distribute as appropriate. A vehicle last registered or titled outside of Texas must pass a safety inspection, and the VIN must be verified by a state appointed safety inspection station before filing an application for Texas title.

A vehicle's record will include a “VIN CERTIFICATION WAIVED” remark when this form is used in lieu of a Vehicle Inspection Report or Form VTR-68-A (law enforcement VIN inspection form issued by the auto theft investigator completing the inspection).

You can get a free VIN check at the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), VehicleHistory.com or iSeeCars.com/VIN. Just pop in your car's digits and these sites will do the VIN lookup and give you information on the vehicle. But you should use more than one of these sites to get the full picture.

A Texas VIN lookup may be conducted through the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) website. The site lists a number of Approved NMVTIS Data Providers with which interested persons can find important vehicle condition and history information.
