How do I get a copy of my 1098-T from college?

Your college or career school will provide your 1098-T form electronically or by postal mail if you paid any qualified tuition and related education expenses during the previous calendar year. Find information about the 1098-E form, which reports the amount of interest you paid on student loans in a calendar year.

Tuition-paying students at eligible colleges or other post-secondary institutions should receive a copy of Internal Revenue Service Form 1098-T from their school each year.

If you forgot to enter your 1098-T and are not going to claim the education credit AND did not have taxable scholarship income (scholarships that exceeded the tuition paid) you do not have to amend your tax return. Keep a copy of it with your tax records for at least three years.

Students can consent online to access and download their 1098-T form electronically. If you do not provide an affirmative consent online, you will receive a paper copy of your 1098-T by mail to the address we have on file. 1098-T forms are electronically available for download and mailed by the last week of January.

You can download your 1098-E from your servicer's website. (You can't download your 1098-E from StudentAid.gov.) If you're not sure who your loan servicer is, you can log in to StudentAid.gov to get your servicer's contact information. You, or the person who may claim you as a dependent, may be able to take either the tuition and fees deduction or claim an education credit on Form 1040 or 1040A for the qualified tuition and related expenses that were actually paid during the calendar year. There is no need to attach Form 1098-T to your tax return.

Why didn't I receive a Form 1098-T? You may have received more scholarships and/or grants than the amount of qualified tuition and fees paid; the University is not required to produce a Form 1098-T.
