Resource Family Approval Program (RFA) Unifies approval standards for all caregivers, regardless of the child's case plan. Includes a comprehensive psychosocial assessment, home environment check, and training for all families, including relatives.

The applicant has ever been convicted of felony child abuse or neglect; spousal abuse; a crime against children (including child ography); or a crime involving violence, including rape, sexual assault, or homicide but not including other types of physical assault or battery.

Resource Family Approval Program (RFA) RFA is a new family-friendly and child-centered caregiver approval process that combines elements of the current foster parent licensing, relative approval, and approvals for adoption and guardianship processes and replaces those processes.

The Resource Family Approval Application Process There are a number of requirements you must meet to become a resource family. The RFA assessment is supposed to be completed within ninety (90) days. However, the majority of county agencies are currently taking much longer to assess RFA applicants.

RFA is a new family-friendly and child-centered caregiver approval process that combines elements of the current foster parent licensing, relative approval processes, and approvals for adoption and guardianship and replaces those processes.

Applicant(s) must be at least 18 years of age. Have the ability to provide stability and consistency, love, support, and care to a child/youth in foster care. Be in good physical and mental health to ensure that you can meet the needs of children/youth coming into your home (A physical exam may be required.)

A RFA Social Worker will schedule an appointment with you and your family to begin the Family Evaluation process. This assessment will assist in determining your readiness to provide a safe and stable home environment for children who cannot safely live with their own families.
