Under Federal law you may be paid: $50.00 each day you come to the courthouse; $0.655 for each mile driven on the shortest practical route to and from the court; Subsistence for hotel lodging may be allowed if you live over fifty (50) miles from the courthouse, and you must stay overnight to attend court.

Jurors typically receive the attendance fee and travel reimbursement payment within 30 days of service.

Do I get paid for my jury services? Only jurors who are selected to serve on a jury will receive $16 (reimbursement) for their first day of service. Jurors serving two days or more will receive $40 (reimbursement) per day after the first day.

The exemptions for jury service are as follows: You are over 70 years of age. You have legal custody of a child or children younger than 12 years of age and service on the jury would require leaving the child or children without adequate supervision. You are a student of a public or private secondary school.

You will be paid by the county in an amount not less than $6.00 and not more than $50.00 per day or fraction of a day served. However, the Commissioners Court of a county may choose to reduce or eliminate the daily compensation for prospective jurors who attend court for only one day without actually serving on a jury.

If you have any questions or concerns please call the jury clerk at (409) 766-2319.

Certified copies may be purchased from the Galveston County Clerk's Office for a 5.00 charge for certification plus 1.00 per page for each document either in person or by telephone and they will be mailed to you.

The general rule under both Texas and federal law is that an employer does not need to pay for time not worked. That would include time spent on jury duty.
