The fact that the terms of the lease has come to an end does not mean that you have to leave the property. Unless you or your landlord takes specific steps to end the agreement under the lease, it will simply continue on exactly the same terms. A tenant who does not vacate the property by the end of the term becomes what's known as holdover tenants. They're no longer protected by the lease. In Texas, a landlord must provide holdover tenants a three-day notice to vacate.

Notice of Termination For Cause If the tenant does not move out of the rental unit at the end of the three days, then the landlord can file an eviction lawsuit (also known as a forcible detainer suit) with the court. (Tex. Prop. Code § 24.005 (2021).)

Most tenants pay rent on the first of the month. Others pay on the 15th or the last day of the month. Some tenants have an arrangement where they pay whenever they get paid, which can be weekly or any other schedule that works for them and their landlord.

Prop. Code §§ 92.016-017). Renewals: A landlord in Texas may decide to not renew a lease for almost any reason. However, if the lease expires without a 30-day notice to terminate, the relationship will continue on a month-to-month basis.

If you don't have a written lease agreement, or if your written lease term has expired, you are probably a month-to-month tenant. A month-to-month lease continues from one month to the next, as its name implies, until either you or your landlord gives a one-month advance notice of termination (ending the lease).

As long as the tenant does not violate any rules, they can stay until their rental period ends. But if the tenant stays in the property even a day after their lease/rental agreement ends and has not arranged for a renewal, landlords can issue a 30-Day Notice to Vacate.
