NOTE: Airmen are responsible for ensuring that the EFMP enrollment information is current. Updates are required when a family member's medical or special education needs change or during an assignment relocation action.

Exceptional Family Member Status Verification Sponsors may view their EFMP status by accessing their family member information tab in the Navy Family Accountability and Assessment System (NFAAS).

EFMP Enrollment: Soldiers initiate enrollment in EFMP by contacting their nearest Army Medical Treatment Facility EFMP case coordinator. Participants in the EFMP are enrolled permanently in the program unless medical or special education needs warrant case closure or the Soldier is separated from the Army.

Appointment for Screening. The Soldier contacts the local military Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) EFMP office for an appointment for the Family members to complete the EFMP screening packet.

Enrollment in the EFMP is mandatory for active duty service members who have dependent family members with ongoing medical, mental health, or special educational needs.

The EFMP process can take up to 14 business days.

The reason the process can be a long one is because members may have to make follow-up medical appointments in order to get proper paperwork filled out by their medical provider or specialists, a face-to-face screening with the EFMP special needs coordinator may need to take place, and a Facility Determination Inquiry ...
