The Georgia Private School Tax Credit law allows eligible private citizens and corporations to receive tax credits for donations to Student Scholarship Organizations (SSOs). SSOs will provide student scholarships to parents of eligible children who plan to attend private schools.

How it works: You can claim 20% of the first $10,000 you paid toward 2022 tuition and fees, for a maximum of $2,000. The lifetime learning credit doesn't count living expenses or transportation as eligible expenses.

In general, qualified tuition and related expenses for the education tax credits include tuition and required fees for the enrollment or attendance at eligible post-secondary educational institutions (including colleges, universities and trade schools).

Rule 560-7-8-. 47 - Qualified Education Expense Credit (1)Purpose. The purpose of this regulation is to provide guidance concerning the administration of O.C.G.A. § 48-7-29.16, which provides a credit for qualified education expenses.

A taxpayer seeking preapproval for the Qualified Education Donation Tax Credit (now referred to as the PEACH Education Tax Credit) must submit Form IT-QED-TP1 electronically through Georgia Tax Center (GTC). A corporate, fiduciary, or individual income tax account is required.
