Q: Does a Scout need a hard copy of a Blue Card when working on merit badges? No. Since the introduction of Scoutbook, the BSA has offered Scouts two ways of recording merit badge requirement completion: The Blue Card and Scoutbook. Both remain authorized methods to record merit badge work.

WHAT IS A BLUE CARD? The Blue Card is a two-sided, tri-section document, which is formally known as The Application For Merit Badge. It is an official Boy Scouts of America document that serves as a record of progress toward completion of a merit badge.

1) All sections must be legible and completed in ink. 2) Always use first and last name on all sections. 3) The Unit Leader only signs the card ONCE – on the front – prior to starting the badge! 4) Blue Cards are due at the first meeting of the Merit Badge session.

Once completed the cyber chip and patch can be purchased at the Scout Shop or online at ScoutShop.org.
