Children of any age are generally permitted to work for businesses entirely owned by their parents, except those under age 16 may not be employed in mining or manufacturing and no one under 18 may be employed in any occupation the Secretary of Labor has declared to be hazardous.

Teens who are 16 and 17 years old may work no more than 30 hours per week when school is in session. However, during the summer vacation and non-school weeks they may work unlimited hours. 3.

Youth who are 14 and 15 years old may work in a broad range of jobs but are significantly limited in the number of hours per day and per week they may work, especially when school is in session. Children 13 years old or younger may not work in Florida, except in some limited situations.

As a general rule, the FLSA sets 14 years old as the minimum age for employment, and limits the number of hours worked by minors under the age of 16.

For Minors Under 16: 8 hours of work per day, 40 per week, up to 6 days per week are permitted when school is out. During a school day only 3 hours are permitted when followed by another school day, except if enrolled in a vocational program. Up to 15 hours can be worked in a schoolweek.

Florida teens aged 14 – 15 can work up to 15 hrs/wk. Not before 7 am or after 8 pm and for no more than 3 hrs a day on school days, when a school day follows. They may work up to 8 hrs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and on non-school days, when school days do not follow until 9 pm.

Hours of Work Children cannot work longer than 30 hours per week. They also can't work between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.

HOURS OF WORK, WHEN SCHOOL IS IN SESSION Florida: May work up to 30 hours per week. Not before 6:30 a.m. or later than 11 p.m. and for no more than 8 hours a day when school is scheduled the following day. On days when school does not follow, there are no hour restrictions.
