How many hours per year of classroom training does a typical apprentice program require?

A: Apprentices must attend Related Technical Instruction which is combined with on-the-job-learning experience. Most programs require approximately 144 hours of Related Technical Instruction per year.

Your Individual ID is the six-digit** number which can be found on your Apprentice registration card or log-book (certain trades only) info page. This number also appears on all ITA transcripts. On older documents this number may be labeled TWID, Tradeworker ID, or Registration Number.

Community colleges and community-based organizations can also serve as sponsors of apprenticeship programs. Sponsors design and execute apprenticeship programs, provide jobs to apprentices, oversee training development, and provide hands-on learning and technical instruction for apprentices.

Apprenticeship programs combine paid on-the-job training with learning in a classroom or shop setting. In most programs, you'll spend about 85 per cent of the time on the job. Most programs take four years to complete.

Formal apprenticeship programs usually last about 4 years, depending on the employer or occupation, although they may take as little as 12 months or as many as 6 years. Many of these programs are registered with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).

It can last between one month and one year, and involves an agreement to work set hours and complete specific pieces of work. An apprenticeship is a way young people and adult learners can earn a wage while they train in a real job. Why would I want to take on an apprentice?

Each level of an apprenticeship program is comprised of 1800 work experience hours, or roughly one year of 40-hour work weeks including your classroom training.

Apprentices should work for a minimum of 30 hours a week, and a maximum of 40.
