Meningitis Vaccine State law requires that all Texas college students under the age of 22 must receive a vaccination or booster against bacterial meningitis.

All new students, including transfer students, must show evidence of receipt of an initial bacterial meningitis vaccination (meningococcal meningitis vaccine) dose or booster in the last five years and at least ten days prior to the first day of the semester session in which the student initially enrolls.

CDC recommends meningococcal vaccination for all preteens and teens. In certain situations, CDC also recommends other children and adults get meningococcal vaccines.

Vaccination Requirements and Exemptions Texas law allows physicians to write medical exemption statements for vaccines that would be medically harmful or injurious to the health and well-being of the child or a household member. Parents or guardians can also choose a religious exemption from immunization requirements.

Submitting Bacterial Meningitis Documentation Log into my.unt.edu. Click on the Tasks tile. Click on "Meningitis Documents Needed" in your To Do List to upload your files.

One dose of MCV4 received in the previous five years is required in Texas for those under the age of 22 years and enrolling in college. Teens and young adults (16-23 years of age) may be vaccinated with MenB. This vaccine is not required for school or college enrollment in Texas.

You must receive the bacterial meningitis vaccination at least 10 days prior to the start of the semester. The vaccination must be no more than five years old from the date you first enroll.

All entering students at an institution of higher education* are required to show proof of an initial meningococcal vaccination or a booster dose during the five-year period prior to enrolling.
