What is the standard deduction for 2018 IRS?

For 2018, the basic standard deduction is $12,000 for singles, $18,000 for heads of household and $24,000 for married couples filing a joint tax return. Higher amounts apply to people who are blind or at least age 65.

The standard deduction amounts for 2018 are nearly double what they were in 2017: $24,000 for joint filers and surviving spouses, $18,000 for heads of households, and $12,000 for singles and married persons filing separately.

Increased Standard Deduction The 2019 standard deduction is increased to $24,400 for married individuals filing a joint return; $18,350 for head-of-household filers; and $12,200 for all other taxpayers. Under the new law, no exceptions are made to the standard deduction for the elderly or blind.
