What is DELF Junior?

DELF Junior is the second level in the DELF/DALF series of certificates awarded by the French Ministry of Education for proficiency in French as a Foreign (or Second) Language. It certifies French language skills through an internationally recognized diploma.

You must obtain a mark of at least 50 out of 100 points to pass the DELF – this is known as the “pass mark” (“seuil de réussite”). Note, however, that if you score less than 5 out of 25 in any one of the four skill sections, you will not pass! To give you an indication, it takes 60 hours to reach level A1.

DELF A1 is typically Grade 5, A2 is typically Grade 8, B1 is typically end of Grade 9 or beginning of Grade 10, B2 is typically end of Grade 12.

The “junior/scolaire” version of the DELF can be divided into two variations: the DELF “junior” and the DELF “scolaire”. The competences assessed and the categories of topics covered in the DELF "junior" and DELF "scolaire" examinations are identical. It is the framework in which the exams are organised that varies.

DELF Prim A1 presentation DELF Prim A1 highlights the first knowledges in French for children between 7 and 11 years old who are in elementary school. DELF Prim A1 recognizes basic knowledge. It is the most basic level at which a language is used, called the "discovery" stage.

DELF A2 for schools is based on the same principle of the DELF A1 for schools. It is intended for teenagers between 12 and 18 years old in middle and high-school.

The DELF Junior, which is valid for an unlimited time period, has the same level of difficulty as the DELF Tout Public and gives the same benefits.

The DELF PRIM is suitable for children aged 6 to 9 and assesses levels A1. 1, A1, A2. The DELF Junior is suitable for children and teenagers aged 10 to 18 and assesses levels A1, A2, B1, B2.
