Food businesses are legally required to ensure all food handlers receive an appropriate level of training and supervision in food hygiene and safety. Although a certificate is not required by law, for the majority of food businesses it is the preferred way of proving food handlers have had the correct training.

The Level 2 food hygiene certificate is also available as online training. To register on to this qualification, learners are required to be 14 years of age or above. It is also advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in English and Maths or equivalent. Arrangements are in place for special needs.
