Senior citizen homestead exemptions That means for the bills that are payable in 2023, the homeowner needed to be age 65 by December 31st, 2022, or before. This exemption is worth an $8,000 reduction on your home's EAV. This is in addition to the $10,000 Homestead Exemption.

The Senior Citizen Homestead Exemption reduces the assessed value of your property by $5,000 and is available for a residence owned and occupied by a person 65 or older during the tax year. If you qualify and do not receive this exemption, contact the Board of Review at (618) 277-6600, ext. 2489, 2493, 2488.

Form PTAX-342, Application for Standard Homestead Exemption for Veterans with Disabilities, must be submitted to • initially apply for the SHEVD, • transfer the SHEVD to the surviving spouse for the first year after the death of the veteran with a disability, or • transfer the SHEVD to a new primary residence.

Senior Citizens Real Estate Tax Deferral Program allows persons 65 years of age and older, who have a total household income of less than $55,000 and meet certain other qualifications, to defer all or part of the real estate taxes and special assessments on their principal residences.

Senior homeowners are eligible for this exemption if they are over 65 years of age and have a total household annual income of $65,000 or less in the 2021 calendar year. A "Senior Freeze" Exemption provides property tax savings by freezing the equalized assessed value (EAV) of an eligible property.

Properties of religious, charitable, and educational organizations, as well as units of federal, state and local governments, are eligible for exemption from property taxes to the extent provided by law.

You will qualify for the property tax credit if: your principal residence during the year preceding the tax year at issue was in Illinois, and. you owned the residence, and. you paid property tax on your principal residence (excluding any applicable exemptions, late fees, and other charges).
