DECLARATION. UNDER THE PROVISION TO SUB-SECTION(3) OF SECTION-1 OF THE ZAKAT AND USHER ORDINANCE, 1980 (XVIII OF 1980) AND RULE 20 OF THE ZAKAT (COLLECTION AND REFUND) RULES, 1981 SWORN ON OATH BEFORE.

What people do not have to pay Zakat? In general, four categories of people do not pay the Zakat-alms required yearly of Muslims: the poor, the indigent, the debt-ridden, and the unfree.

To be eligible to receive zakat, the recipient must be poor and/or needy. A poor person is someone whose property, in excess of his basic requirements, does not reach the nisab threshold. The recipient must not belong to your immediate family; your spouse, children, parents and grandparents cannot receive your zakat.

This was done strictly in line with the Supreme Court of Pakistan's landmark judgment of March 9, 1999 that states that members of all 'fiqhs' are entitled to exemption from compulsory deduction of , and the Federal Government had no authority to reject the declaration of any Muslim seeking exemption from zakat.

The Short Answer. Yes. The Quran explicitly identifies “the debt-ridden” as the Sixth of the Eight Categories of people entitled to Zakat (see Surat Al-Tawbah, 9:60).

Individuals must meet a certain threshold known as nisab in order to qualify for zakat every lunar year. This is set at the value of 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. People whose wealth exceeds the value of these amounts must pay 2.5% of the value of their wealth in zakat.

You must hold your wealth for a full Islamic year (Hawl) before you are required to pay Zakat. If you start the year above the nisab threshold and finish it above the nisab threshold, but your wealth drops below the nisab threshold during the year, you are still eligible to pay Zakat.
