The standard Amendment of Insured Contract Definition commercial general liability (CGL) endorsement (CG 24 26) alters the policy's definition of "insured contract" to require that the injury or damage for which coverage is sought was caused "in whole or in part" by the named insured or those acting for it.

Both additional insureds and loss payees are entitled to receive insurance benefits along with the named insured. The difference is that additional insureds receive only liability protection whereas loss payees receive only property damage coverage.

For example, a construction company working on a city government building may be required to hold the city harmless if someone were to be injured on the construction site. The construction company has agreed to assume liability and indemnify the city.

An insured contract is, among other things, a contract or agreement pertaining to the insured's business, in which the signor assumes the tort liability of another for bodily injury or property damage to a third party.

ADDITIONAL INSURED – DESIGNATED PERSON OR ORGANIZATION. This endorsement modifies insurance provided under the following: COMMERCIAL GENERAL LIABILITY COVERAGE PART.

Liability Assumed Under an "Insured Contract" Tort liability means a liability that would be imposed by law in the absence of any contract or agreement."

CG 20 26 Additional Insured - Designated Person or Organization. Adds a designated person or organization as an additional insured for liability arising out of the named insured's premises or operations. This endorsement can be used to add any interest to the policy, subject to company approval.
