The boil filtered water advisory is now lifted for the city of Flint, effective 10:15 a.m. February 13, 2023, following two consecutive 24-hour testing rounds. This mandated sampling was conducted at 10 sites throughout the city of Flint and results were negative for Bac-T.

While the water quality of the Flint River was poor as a result of unregulated discharges by industries and municipalities (Leonardi & Gruhn 2001), the principal reason for the switch was to ensure a sufficient quantity of water for the growing population (Carmody 2016).

In early 2013, in order to save money, Flint officials decided to change the source of the city's water from the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department to the Karegnondi Water Authority (KWA).

When the people of Flint, Michigan, turned on their faucets in April 2014, the water pouring out was poisoned with lead and other toxins. Through a series of disastrous decisions, the state government had switched the city's water to a source that corroded Flint's aging lead pipes.
