  2. Enter the parent's adjusted gross income as defined by the IRS in Section 1. Be sure to double-check your figures for accuracy.
  3. In Section 2, supply the annual work-related child care cost. This information should reflect the overall expenses that relate specifically to child care.
  4. For Section 3, determine the maximum child care amount that applies for federal tax credit. Input the lesser amount between your annual child care cost or $3,000 for one child, or $6,000 for two or more children.
  5. In Section 4, if your child care costs are less than the specified limits in Section 3, provide the tax credit percentage based on the Tax Credit Table, Column 2. If your costs exceed these limits, enter the maximum dollar credit from Column 3.
  6. Calculate the tax credit in Section 5 by multiplying the amounts from Section 3 and Section 4, or directly entering the maximum dollar tax credit if applicable.

New Jersey Court Rule 5:6B mandates that child support orders in New Jersey must be adjusted every two years to reflect the cost of living, as established by the Consumer Price Index. These changes are referred to as “Cost of Living Adjustments” or simply COLA.

Per Appendix IX-A, expenses included under the Child Support Guidelines are a child's share of expenses for housing, food, clothing, transportation, entertainment, unreimbursed health care up to and including $250 per child per year, and miscellaneous items.

For example, net monthly income of Parent A, the custodial parent, is $3000 and Parent B's net income is $5,000. Total net income is $8,000. Using one state's guidelines, the total basic support obligation is estimated at $794 for one child.

Child support payments must also continue until the child reaches the age of 19, unless one of the following exceptions applies: There is a court order that specifies another age for the termination of the obligation to pay child support. However, the age may not extend past the date when the child turns 23.

The New Jersey Child Support Guidelines through Appendix IX-B define gross income as all earned and unearned income that is recurring or will increase the income available to the recipient over an extended period of time.

New Jersey uses what's known as the Income Shares Method in calculating child support. This means the amount of support is based on both parents' income, using a percentage of their total combined income to determine each parent's share of the child support amount.

Yes. For support orders that are being supervised by the Probation Division of the Superior Court, both the custodial and non-custodial parent will receive a "Notice of Proposed Child Support Obligation Termination" 180 days before the child support obligation termination date.

Child support laws in New Jersey Irrespective of the custody arrangement, under New Jersey law, both parents have the obligation to provide financial support for their child until the child is emancipated. The law in New Jersey further provides that children are entitled to share in the current income of both parents.
