U.S. Army OCS is the U.S. Army's training academy for officers. It is a rigorous 12-week course open to candidates who are active-duty noncommissioned officers, civilians who have a four-year college degree, contract workers like doctors and nurses and those in the U.S. Army Reserve or U.S. Army National Guard.

While civilian college graduates and current military candidates do not compete with each other for available OCS slots, the more prepared you are for the physically rigorous demands of OCS, the better. About 65% of OCS applicants are accepted.

What is the DA Form 61 for? The form is a basis for evaluation of qualifications and background information for eligibility for consideration for appointment as a Regular Army or Army Reserve commissioned or warrant officer or for selection for attendance at the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School.

To attend Officer Candidate School, you must be a U.S. citizen and a college graduate, be at least 18 years of age at the time of regular Army enlistment and entered active duty or ship to training on or before your 30th birthday.

To obtain an appointment as a commissioned or warrant officer in the Regular Army or Army Reserve, or to obtain selection to attend the US Army Officer Candidate School.

Age Waiver – Candidates can be commissioned up to 41 years old and 364 days. No waiver is granted for those older than 42 years old. The maximum allowable age for Officer Candidates entering under the 09S Enlistment Option is 35 years of age.
