AVID Center Julie Elliott Scholarship Scholarship Purpose The funds are to be used for any college-related expenses including but not limited to tuition books housing or travel. Scholarship Amount Nomination Deadline Recommendation forms are due to the divisions April 18 2014. Divisions select Scholarship recipients by May 2. 2014 Nomination Form In 2011 AVID lost one of its brightest stars Ms. Julie Elliott whose leadership was woven into the fabric of her life. Her belief in education as the door to equity and opportunity was the guiding principle of her career. Number of Scholarships to be Awarded Two scholarships will be awarded for each AVID Division 8 total California Central Eastern Western Eligibility Criteria The student should represent the quintessential AVID Elective student one who has overcome personal obstacles through sheer determination and is now moving on to college. Other factors to be considered include in order Graduating AVID student Acceptance into a four-year college/university Financial need Compelling story/most improved student AP/IB/dual credit course GPA Next Steps/ Each AVID Coordinator may submit one nomination per school* Schools need to get recommendations to the divisions by April 18. In 1999 as then principal of Crawford High School her school was awarded the prestigious AVID National Demonstration School status. Later she joined the AVID Center in San Diego as Associate California State Director. Ms. Elliott brought laughter and a love of life with her to these roles. Her commitment to students and colleagues her zest for life and her impact on our nation s education is her legacy.
