CCIR is necessary for the commander to make well-informed decisions, and as such CCIR has a critical impact on virtually every aspect of the mission. PIR is the means by which the commander tasks his ISR assets. FFIR is the means by which the commander understands the status of each subordinate unit during the mission.

CCIRs comprise information required for the commander to make timely decisions for mission accomplishment and are either critical for the success of the mission or repre- sent a critical threat to the mission.

Commander's critical information requirements (CCIR) assist the commander in making timely and effective decisions. CCIR identifies reconnaissance objectives and drives the commander's reconnaissance guidance.

a. CCIR. Report by telephone immediately upon discovery or notification at the Major Subordinate Command level. The telephonic report will be followed by a written report to the JOC by electronic mail within 6 hours of discovery or notification.
