Helm lets you package and deploy complete applications in Kubernetes. A package is called a "Chart". Helm uses a templating system based on Go template to render Kubernetes manifests from charts. A chart is a consistent structure separating templates and values.

The Helm application library uses charts to define, create, , and upgrade Kubernetes applications. Helm charts allow you to manage Kubernetes manifests without using the Kubernetes command-line interface (CLI) or remembering complicated Kubernetes commands to control the cluster.

Helm uses a packaging format called charts. A chart is a collection of files that describe a related set of Kubernetes resources. A single chart might be used to deploy something simple, like a memcached pod, or something complex, like a full web app stack with HTTP servers, databases, caches, and so on.

yaml contains metadata about the chart itself: its name, the chart version, a description, and similar details. In Helm 3 it can contain dependencies as well. values. yaml contains configuration settings for the chart.

Helm charts have the ability to include other charts, referred to as subcharts, via their dependencies section. When a chart is created for the purpose of grouping together related subcharts/services, such as to compose a whole application or deployment, we call this an umbrella chart.
