Description how to write a dispute letter to a collector letter

Pursuant to 15 USC 1692g (Sec. 809 of the Federal Debt Collection Practices Act), a debtor is allowed to challenge the validity of a debt that a collection agency states you owe to the creditor they represent. Use this form letter requires that the agency verify that the debt is actually the alleged creditor's and owed by the alleged debtor.

If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty day period described in Section 809, (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.
